October 1, 2011

The Vesuvius Heritage Day is being moved to the first Saturday in October - October 1, 2011 with events scheduled throughout the entire village on Route 56.  Special events scheduled at the Cryus McCormick Farm and Rockbridge Vineyards on the same date will offer visitors within the area a wide variety of activities to enjoy throughout the day.  Featured at the Vesuvius Community Center will be the traveling exhibit and commemorative quilt celebrating the 75th anniversary of the Blue Ridge Parkway along with many new local historical findings and updates.  These displays will remain on exhibit throughout the entire weekend.  Also planned is another 5K Benefit Walk/Run Marathon sponsored by the Vesuvius Baptist Church along with the usual good food, music, children's activities, and yard, bake and craft sales.  Vendors are welcome to set up at no cost but with prior approval from property owners if possible.  Vesuvius Heritage Day is sponsored by the Vesuvius Community Association and supported by local businesses and groups including Vesuvius Baptist Church, Emory Methodist Church, Mangus House B & B, Gertie's Country Store and Deli, and Granny's Attic.  Events are planned at each of these venues in addition to those at the Community Center.  We hope everyone can join us as we celebrate as our community's rich history in agriculture, mining, and railroading and pay tribute to our forefathers.
